Organized Inspiration

Monday, January 7, 2013

Hey all, and Happy Monday! Let the record show that I'm actually out of pajamas, and wearing a bra today...and makeup. Stupid workplace dress code! It's been an amazing few weeks at home, hanging with my babes, but the Real World bitch slapped me, and I'm back to work.

But while we had many lazy days, the organizing bug that accompanies a New Year, finally bit me, and I spent all weekend tearing through cabinets and closets. Why is that always such a can of worms?! You start with one cabinet, and next thing you know, the whole house is torn upside down!

Last year we overhauled the Pantry, Coat Closet and cabinet under the Kitchen sink, and added a Family Command Center, Gift Wrap Station and Mudroom....and all are still working well for us. But most every other area in our house is sorely lacking in organization, so I gathered some inspiration for our Laundry Room, Craft Supplies, Bathroom, and Garage, in hope that it sparks an organizing episode.

Granted, some of these spaces aren't possible for real life scenarios, but they certainly make me want to rent a dumpster and purge through every room in my house! I've started on the Bathroom cabinets, which basically means we can't see the floor through all the clutter I cleared out. Hopefully I'll put everything back this weekend and show you soon. Does January spark an organizing episode in you? What spaces are you hoping to tackle first?

23 witty retorts:

  1. January is definitely early spring cleaning in our house. For me it's putting away all of the Christmas decor and then seeing how open the house looks when it's gone that makes me want to further declutter and organize.

Bummer about having to toss back on the ol boulder holder ;D

  2. I really like the pegboard organization! Especially the way some of those spools of ribbon are stored -- I desperately need a better solution for my ribbon. *Sigh*

  3. Pin pin...pin pin pin...pin...pin pin...I was drooling over every single picture!!! Filled up my Organization folder that's for sure!

  4. Ditto...just pinned all the workshop pics. I'm so craving getting our garage, basement, and storage areas organized.

  5. My dream is to organize our attic. We have a huge attic space with a pull down stairs. However, it seriously looks like we just pull open the door and randomly throw stuff up there. It might take me all year but I am determined to purge and clean that whole space. It won't be pretty or pin-worthy when I'm done, but at least I won't feel like the ceiling is going to collapse on my head from all the junk we keep up there.

  6. Been organizing and purging slowly since November. Kitchen is done except for the pantry. Bathrooms done. Storage room in the basement is done. Garage needs it badly!!

I start back to work for the tax season here in the next week.

  7. This is my favorite time of year... next to Christmas time. I love all the magazines filled with glossy pictures of perfectly organized spaces. My heart just goes pitter pat at the thought of it. I cannot wait to organize a few things here, but I am mostly looking forward to doing a few things in our family room to make it more guest friendly.

  10. Oh yeah, once you start you can't stop - I feel a little like the squirrel from Hoodwinked (please tell me you've seen that movie) - ha! Those organized craft paints made me weak in the knees. Clearly I have issues. ;)

  18. Ahhhhhh organizational porn. Thank you dear. I too wriggled into a bra today to get back to work after some extended holidays with my menthings...totally over-rated I tell you. The bra not the boys ;) The hubs and I have seriously been roaming through our basement taking measurements etc....currently I am winning the argument to organize and go "down to the studs"...but he has a lot of VETO when it comes to brute labour :) Happy New Year!!

  23. The bug has bitten me too! I am making good progress, got the pantry and the kitchen done. I got my office finished last week. But, there is a LOT left to do around here and I fear I am the only one who is going to do it or care. Ugh!!!
